Key Background
Cherokee Federal, part of government contractor Cherokee Nation Businesses, has seriously increased expansion plans nationwide with the opening of a new office in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Strategically located, the office will be used to support defense and intelligence activities surrounding large U.S. military installations like Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base, Schriever Space Force Base, and the U.S. Air Force Academy.
The growth also features the appointment of Roberto Torres as Senior Director of Homeland Security Solutions. Torres, who is based in Washington, D.C., comes with close to 20 years of federal business development, cloud solutions, procurement strategies, and compliance experience. His responsibility will be to utilize Cherokee Federal’s expertise in homeland security, especially as the company continues to expand its operations with national security agencies.
The move is part of Cherokee Federal’s ongoing expansion, earlier which led the company to open a 20,000-square-foot office building in Tysons Corner, Virginia. The building now houses over 100 employees serving federal clients. The company has secured about $2.9 billion worth of government contracts since 2021, based on its growing reputation as a government contractor.
Cherokee Federal also began offering Sovereign Capital, a private investment company owned by the tribe, in 2024. Its first acquisition was acquiring majority interest in Advanced Technology Applications, a government services company providing services to agencies like Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense. These acquisition and merger transactions reflect the policy of Cherokee Federal to offer innovative solutions in return for profit to the Cherokee Nation.
With more than 5,000 employees serving 35 federal contracting firms, Cherokee Federal provides 37% of monthly revenues to the general fund of the Cherokee Nation. These funds assist in providing essential services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure, which indicates the company’s overall impact beyond federal contracting. Cherokee Federal is also ranked in Washington Technology’s top 100 federal contractors in the United States.
