Royal HaskoningDHV Expands Maritime Expertise with Acquisition of Arch Henderson

The acquisition boosts Royal HaskoningDHV’s UK headcount to over 800 employees, enhancing its capabilities in the maritime and renewable energy sectors.

Royal HaskoningDHV, an international engineering consultancy, has announced the acquisition of Scottish maritime engineering firm Arch Henderson, further strengthening its capabilities in the maritime sector. The acquisition brings approximately 70 professionals from Arch Henderson into Royal HaskoningDHV’s expanding workforce, which now exceeds 800 employees across the UK. 

Arch Henderson, founded in 1919, is renowned for its expertise in the design of harbor works, coastal protection schemes, and ship repair facilities. The firm operates across the UK and internationally, with offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Lerwick, and Southampton. Its extensive portfolio includes projects in Algeria, Qatar, Egypt, Finland, the Falkland Islands, and even the Antarctic. Serving clients such as port authorities, shipbuilders, oil companies, and offshore service providers, Arch Henderson has established itself as a leader in maritime engineering. 

Commenting on the acquisition, Alan Kilbride, Principal Partner at Arch Henderson, expressed excitement about the new opportunities this partnership will bring. He noted that the move will allow the firm to offer an expanded range of services to existing clients, while enabling faster growth and access to prestigious international projects. 

For Royal HaskoningDHV, this acquisition enhances its maritime and renewable energy capabilities, positioning the firm to capture emerging opportunities in the offshore wind port market, particularly in the North Sea. CEO Marije Hulshof highlighted the complementary strengths of both companies, emphasizing their shared century-long expertise and established client relationships. The companies are also focused on expanding their offerings in naval base infrastructure, leveraging Arch Henderson’s strong presence in the Scottish market alongside Royal HaskoningDHV’s experience at Portsmouth and Devonport. This acquisition marks a significant step for Royal HaskoningDHV as it continues to build its reputation as a global leader in engineering consultancy.
